This thread is one I want to get in on. I play because I always feel great after even the worst rehearsal of the year and really great after a rocking concert. I play in amateur wind ensembles because I love the music and because I want to play, not count. I have enormous respect for the orchestral greats among us, but I realized a long time ago I would not be one of them.

Regardless, when the great chords start rolling out of a serious brass section, I am in seventh heaven.

I regret all the problems orchestras are having, but from what I've heard they are mostly financial (business issues) not musical. Hopefully the pendulum will swing back again. However, I doubt if tubas would die out, even if (may the muses forefend) ALL orchestras closed up shop. After all, an orchestra uses only ONE tuba. A good sized band can use about twenty!

Tubas Forever!!
