I think that you are correct that Michael Lind's Alex is solid nickel silver, I remember the same from the 1984 conference. I know that you are correct that Alexander would build a solid nickel silver tuba, I have seen one and Connie Weldon used one when she was playing in Amsterdam in the 50's. Alexander would also build a gold brass tuba with a nickel silver valve cluster and inner and outer slides by request. To my knowlege, Alexander did not plate or lacquer tubas (at least when I bought mine in the 70's).
