Could it be that VMI doesn't seem to have been around as long as Mirafone, and therefore doesn't have the decades-old reputation? I'm willing to bet that most of the professionals on the survey started learning tuba when Mirafones were all the rage. If I get to that age & level, I'll probably favor today's popular brands in a similar fashion.

I haven't liked most Mirafones, but that's just me, and a lot of awfully good players swear by them (and I mean the "good swear", not like "(AT)*%#! Mirafones....jeez...").

FWIW, I don't know of any requirement that to be a professional, you must play a CC tuba rather than a BBb. If there is, such as a contract somewhere stating, "The employee must use a CC tuba.", I'd appreciate being enlightened.
