Hi!

First of all, buy a used horn. Most quality used tubas you will find (On this BBS and everywhere else) play just as well as new horns, and you'll save some considerable bucks. Second, don't be in a rush to buy. I looked around for an inexpensive horn for a good four months, and finally found an almost-new condition MW-Bill Bell model that a high school was unloading (just because it was a CC tuba and most high school kids don't want to learn the new fingerings) I bought it for $1000, spent about $250 fixing what needed fixing, and the following year I made first chair All-State on the horn. Ask around, see what's out there. You'll find something.
