Hi Jeff, there have been some good suggestions so far, and since I can't come up with anything else I would like to try an analogy for you (my students seem to enjoy them, maybe they're just humoring me). If I already had a headache, I would probably rather beat myself in the noggin with a wiffle ball bat than a Louisville Slugger. If you really want to use a Sousa, you'd probably be better off in the long run if you can find a decent sounding fiberglass horn. The chair is good for concert band rehearsals, but if your dance band is like mine, you will want at least a little bit of mobility.
Oh, and have you ever considered learning the bass? (I know, that's my answer for everything...) It will open up a world of new possibilities to you.
Good luck, and check out my web-site for some pointers on getting started with the bass.
MF
