Your short term solution is.......(gasp) fiberglass sousaphones. Please hear me out. A good playing good conditon Conn or King for under $1000 will likely play and sound better than a 3/4 size 3 valve tuba you can get for the same money. It's just supply and demand. Since it seems like you aren't the only band director in this situation, buy against the demand. We get more for the Conn 36K's, my favorite, but for a package deal on 3, something can be done. The King is my 2nd choice.
