Try this:

1 - Leave your horn out of the case. For me sometimes that hardest thing is getting started. If the horn is out, when I walk by, I pick it up to blow a coupla notes, and end up playing for an hour or so.

2 - Don't put unrealistic expecations on yourself. If you say, "I gotta practice 3 hours a day." This might be unreasonable for your circumstances. Just plan on 15 MINUTES a day. Surely, you have 15 minutes to devote. Again, these 15 minutes will expand to 30, to 45, to 60 and more before you know it.

3 - Play something you WANT to play. The routine of long tones, lip slurs, 3 note patterns, & scales gets pretty tired real soon. Find music to play that incorporates these skills so it is more stimulating.

Hope this helps. Tony Clements
