in my latest quintet, I used my B&M 5/4 for a while, personally I loved the sound but the other members had to work too much. Others would call this "drowning them out." So...........I started to quest for a quintet horn, tried an early PT-3 that the group loved, and then got a Mirafone 184 CC. I didn't like the Mirafone, while I had played a 184 for years previously, that horn was pitched in BBflat and the CC incarnation played too much like a baritone for my tastes! I am now using a PT4P for chamber music, it is a good all-around horn for small groups for me, and when I think this "S.A.T." is too small for the gig I use my "M.A.T." B&M or even my "B.A.T." whole-tone.

Personal opinion? For me IF the B&M is too big for quintet, then the 184 CC is too small. MAYBE a 184 in BBflat would work, but honestly I don't think I would be happy with my sound if I used a horn much smaller than a 186. Weril or Yamaha 3/4? I don't think so.
