Thank-you so much for your qualifying remarks- now I won't lambaste you. You are right that a professional should be versatile, but I also believe that, although I play tubas in BBb, CC, Eb and F, that I could play all my gigs on a BBb tuba with no significant musical handicap. This past weekend, I in fact played an orchestra concert on a 6/4 BBb Conn tuba since my CC was in for repairs. I'll admit that playing in those keys on BBb was NOT as fun as CC, but I don't think it translated into anything the audience heard, which is the primary consideration.
