I recently discovered a very interesting text with quite a bit of history of tubas, "A Treatise on the Tuba", by Dr Donald Stauffer. Amazon carries it, among others. (By the way, when he uses "D.V." in reference to frequencies, translate that to Hertz or cycles per second (his abbreviation stands for "double vibrations", referring to the visual appearance of a full cycle of vibration on some forms of displays).)
