As a high school student, my main motivation for pracitcing a lot over the summer is that I can get a lot better and blow away our 20+ turmpet section w/ no problem. That may seem petty, but when we all get together and everyone but my section gets yelled at, it makes me feel a little better about my abilities (which are minimal).
Friends tell me im obsessed, that i need to get a life, and yet i still am not where i want to be. I just keep practicing. Somedays the motivation is another trip to All State. Other days, it's maybe I can play at church one sunday.
But mostly it's to be better than anyone else at my school.
I ask, then, as long as one is motivated, does the means of the motivation matter?
