Another real life story for illustration:

When B&H/Besson replaced the old Imperial/New Standard Eb lines with the Sovereigns, they took the old valve set. Put something like the old York Monster bell on it. Created 2 distinct models by putting a short, lowset leadpipe on the Fletcher inspired concert version. And a longer higher set leadpipe on the parade version. Both leadpipes apparently conical for all of their respective lenghts.

Today the concert version has been revised. (Fletcher was a great player, but not a tall man). So now the concert version leadpipe is as high set, and hence as long, as that of the parade version. Only, according to B&H, the concert leadpipe is still expanding at a much faster ration, so that it reaches the full bore of the valve set well ahead of entering it.

The flip side of this r evision is a very short main tuning slide.

PS: Slightly sidetracking the thread I still would like to ask about a feature offered by Vincent Bach on their bassbones:

One of the leadpipe offers was a so called mouthpiece holder. Apparently there was no expanding venturi. Only a mpc fixed in the center of the one end of a full bore pipe. Never saw it. Never tried it. Never heard of any players using it.

Could somebody elaborate on the topic?
