Hi Ray. Yes, you can clean your mouthpiece at home. Just put some Gorham's silver polish on your fingers and rub the mouthpiece inside and out until it is clean. Gorham's is recommended because it is not abrasive.

Buy a tuba mouthpiece brush so you can clean the throat (the narrowest part) and the backbore (the part inside the shank, which fits into the receiver on the instrument.)

Never stand the mouthpiece on its face (where your lips go). To protect the finish of the face, lay the mouthpiece on its side.

I've met people who pride themselves on never cleaning their mouthpieces. Just remember, the mouthpiece touches your mouth. Avoid infections and rashes by keeping it clean.
