My school is in a similar situation, and we, like you, can't afford to buy new sousaphones (especially considering they just ordered a new concert tuba, yay!!!). Your best bet would be to take them to be fixed up (I've been planning to get these plastic pieces of crap to Dillon's for about a month...what I wouldn't give for a car...). It'll cost a lot less than new ones, and should make them sound great. Just look around for a repair shop in your area, get permission (and hopefully money) from your school to take 'em. Good luck!!!
