The compensating system consists of extra tubing on the back of the valve
casings, small on number 2, larger and removable with slides on 1 & 3.
Try playing concert C on 1st & 3rd then 4th. on its own and see
the difference.
These were fine instruments in their day, though by todays standards the bore
will seem very small and it will need a narrow bore mouthpiece to fit.
