I'm thinking about doing some modifications to my old Besson compensating euphonium. I am very happy with most of the playing aspects of it, but I think it could play even better. here are some things I am thinking about doing, let me know what effects, good or bad you think this could have on the horn.

1. Replace the receiver with one that will take a large shank
OR
1a. Replace the whole leadpipe. The current one, though 43 years old, seems to be in good shape.

2. Unsolder the leadpipe (old or new) and place it away from the bell with braces

3. remove the extra leadpipe brace. It has two, one vertical and one horizontal.

4. unsolder the bell at the top of the body of horn. Right now the bell is soldered directly to the body, I am thinking about using a brace a little lower on the bell.

Most of these modifications I am thinking about are with the thought of making the horn a little more free blowing, with more "ring" in the bell.

let me know if you think any of these might help.

Mark
