Many years ago (like 20) I bought my first tuba, a stencil-Cerveny "La Sete"
from Norm Barthold in Southern California. It was in great, unused shape,
but had the clockspring and s linkages. At that time I bought the Mirafone paddles,
springs, carriage bar, and DVS rods w/balls & sockets for 325 and paid a shop 100 bucks
to put it all on, it was a lot of money I thought for a thousand-dollar horn,
but it worked WAY better and made the horn a lot easier to sell when I bought my 184
two years later. I felt the advantage of machined-to-fit parts and solid construction made up a bit for the seemingly high cost.
