Maybe another option you have is to devise a way to hold the valve in the down position (similar to most 4th valve on compensating euphs only not that sophysticated). Maybe something as simple as a rubber band connected to the botton of the first slide, and when you need to empty the valve stretch accross the top of the piston and connect it to the third valve slide. Pretty inexpensive, but would probably do the trick for emptying slides.
