I've played the ballet over FIVE HUNDRED TIMES! It does, indeed, have a tuba part. I've played it on a Hirsbrunner 4/4 CC. and a Yamaha 321s Eb. Played it on my 822 F once. And a Mirafone 184 CC and a 186 CC. I think it sounds best on a larger (not necessarily a BAT!) tuba. It depends on 2 things: size of the orchestra, size of the bass & cello sections. Its easy to cover the strings in a pit setting, where the tuba is blowing OUT OF the pit and everyone esle's sound is mixing around IN the pit.
