Sorry Chuck but it was Webern who was shot accidentally by soldiers in World War II. Here is his bio from Encarta online:

ANTON WEBERN (1883-1945)

Life

A trained musicologist and influenced by techniques of the Renaissance: hocket, proportions, and canons.

Webern studied with Schoenberg from 1904 to 1908 (although they continued the teacher-pupil relationship for many more years)

Nazis burned his writings and forbade performances of his music after Hitler took over Austria.

Was shot accidently by an American soldier during the Allied occupation of Germany immediately after World War II (15 September 1945)

I checked on Berg but couldn't find a cause of his death.

Does this mean you won't allow me access to the Tyrrell Eb version? ;-)
