The seniors have a lot to offer to freshmen such as yourself. Your section leaders I'm sure would be happy to share some pointers with you and "show you the ropes." Just know in advance that prep-camp and band-camp are when you work the most because once those are over and you are spending your time after school, the morale and dedication of most everyone immediately leaves and the product dies.
and to support someone else's comments...I've never sat out a practice, and neither has most anyone else (besides the whiners who wish they were somewhere else). Your first couple days will be tough, but soak up all the pride you can to ignore the discomfort while you still can. It will become a WHOLE LOT easier VERY quickly.
