Compensating systems have their pros and cons as most things on this planet. It does make the low range stuffy, but it also makes it a lot easyer to access, I find. Still, the design of the Besson 994 (the upright version) is made for use by VERY large people and for slightly smaller (like me) persons, it can be a rather hard job holding the instrument and playing it, especially if you have your hand on the fourth valve (quite essential to make the compensating system work). I havenīt tried the front action version to comment on that.
