People get 2 or 3 tubas to help them win that orchestra or band job. Sure, they could get by on one horn, but would then sound as good and play as well to win the job? It's like saying "Gee, my little pony, Freckles, is such a great pony, he'll let anyone ride him, hey, let's enter him in the Kentucky Derby." Sure that little pony, Freckles, will carry the jockey across the finish line, but he won't win.
