You can ALWAYS play. Whether you can find a paying gig, is another issue.
There are always community bands and orchestras available. (If you happen to be near Rockland County, New York....have I got a BAND for you!!!) ;-)
After you have been seen playing in the area, then people may remember you if a paying job comes up! Don't stop playing because the Chicago Symphony doesn't hire you out of college. :-)
