Pay attention to what he says about playing in a professional orchestra. I did that, (not on tuba) for one season....and then I quit and went back to school for my engineering degree. It was NOT FUN. Half the orchestra was trying to get the conductor fired, and the other half was trying to keep him. It was not possible to not be on a side, because everyone was suspicious of everyone else. The conductor, BTW, was a jerk. Many conductors are jerks. It's like being in the military in some ways; you have no say about how the music is done, and you get hell if you mess up. I'm much happier playing in a community orchestra and making money at something that I didn't love all that much to start with. Being a professional musician damn near ruined music for me, and I feel lucky to have retrieved that love after some years away from it.
