I'm a mirafone 188 owner, and I recommend the horn and a good jack of MOST trades. I also agree about the conns (52 & 56). I played a 52 a few weeks back and I'm sold; I just need to pull a few thousand dollars out of the air. Also, the rudys have a great sound and a solid reputation. Head over to Brasswind or Custom Music and build relationships with the tuba guys there. They won't point you wrong if you keep asking questions and keep an open mind.

Any line of tubas will have inconsistenies, and that is why the mantra of this BBS has been TRY IT BEFORE YOU BUY IT. No one will be able to point you to exactly the horn you need, you'll just figure it out as you go along.

Personally, my advice to you; as I recall, you're a big guy, so you're not going to need a BAT to fill up a room. This should open you up to exsplore allsizes of horns in different styles.

Good luck!

Dan
