Cerveny has had a good reputation in the past, but has tarnished it lately. The biggest problem with their tubas are consistancy. About one in ten Cervenys are worth their salt these days. You might look for an older model, but these are rare. I'd probably go with a VMI or Miraphone S-series as suggested by Mark. Miraphone makes a few affordable BBbs that really play well, especially the S191 and the S186. The VMI I would look at is the 2103. I think all 3 tubas are around 3000 to 4000 dollars or less. If you have youe heart set on a Cerveny, I would take a road trip and play test a few of them. Bring a tuner and a friend so you can get some feedback about the intonation and sound quality. Good luck!
