Oscar is a fine young player and deserved the results. However, no explanation was given as to how this person was "allowed" into the competition - there were no "alternates" because all of the competitors who sent in applications "by or near the deadline" were allowed into the competition; it is my understanding that Oscar did not even get his application in any time near the deadline.

There were other "problems" with this and other competitions in terms of judging and administration. The brouhaha with the judges cancelling the final round of the mock orchestral competition was stunning news at ITEC, not really getting much play here - people have questions about how and why these competitions were handled (or mishandled) but the ITEC folks are very defensive about it. Dennis Askew was under siege about all of this stuff. Bottom line is that these things left a "bad taste in the mouth" of many people...ITEC has some fence mending to do...they really shot themselves in the foot with this mess.
