When I worked in Central Florida many years ago, I had the rare privilege of meeting Fred Pfaff. He had this picture on his wall. He told me that Jack Richardson was a giant of a man, somewhere (AT) 6'8" and dwarfed his sousaphone. Knowing this, you get a GREAT idea at just how big that sucker really was. Fred was true gentleman, had played with everyone, knew everyone, and at 90 something still could make a respectable sound on his tuba. The late Lee Richardson wrote a wonderful article on him for a TUBA Journal many years ago.
