hey folks,

I've received an advance copy of a new Respighi disc that's coming out on Reference Recordings with the Minnesota Orchestra, conducted by Eiji Oue. This has two rather *off the beaten path* works, along with the ubiquitous "Pines of Rome". The sound on this recording is to die for - a 10 on patented BG Sound-O-Meter. Now, before I go any further, yes, of course the Reiner/CSO "Pines" is still the one by which all others are measured. However, this one has a lot fatter organ in the last movement (Appian Way), and all of the extra brass sound wonderful. There's simply no hint of distortion anywhere, and all of the brass articulations remain real clean sounding. The two other works are "Belkis, Queen of Sheba"; and "Dance of the Gnomes - suite". Both of those works are equally colorful and fun to listen to. I've sure been enjoying this! It'll be out later in September sometime.
