There was a very recent posting on this. The exercise you are looking for, and so painstakingly described described by another respondent, is contained in the book Hal Leonard Advanced Band Method - Basses (Tuba) by Harolds Rusch with Special Studies by Arnold Jacobs. There are 18 pages of Jacobs studies in this book, mostly from Arban, Kopprasch, and other similar sources, the advantage being they are grouped together with Mr. Jacobs' comments and observations on the various purposes of each study. It is readily available from Hickey Music in Ithaca, NY.

On the website, the trick is - it's in tuba under junior methods. This treasure trove to keep advanced students and professionals on the right track is contained in a middle school band method. Go figure.
