David,

For the past three years, I have owned and played a Cerveny four-rotary-valved bass trombone in F. It is very well made, is heavy to hold, and has a powerful full voice on the dark side. It has some intonation quirks-----I use the third and the fourth valves alot instead of 1-2 and 1-3. It takes more air than many tubas. Some pros who have seen it, liken it to a "straight" model cimbasso. I've used it in two pro orchestras (not big-name groups), and the conductors have loved its voice. It blends well with the upper trombones. I particularly like it for somber pieces such as requiems, masses, oratorios, etc. It would be great for Verdi operas. I am sending you a photo directed to your e-mail address.
