I have always been a skinny runt; just can't help it. My lung capacity has never been outstanding, but it's enough for me. When I was in high school it broke my heart to hear Bill Bell unable to make it through moderately long phrases that I could play in one breath. I am sure that he could play phrases twice as long when he was younger, but something happened. Now I am almost 59 and can still play what I did in high school, wearing almost the same clothing. Whether it has anything to do with my inability to put on weight I do not know. But as I told Harvey once, "a waist is a terrible thing to mind."
