most horns have no problem tipping over with the monsterweights. My piggy is a little more unstable, but the bell is small compared to the body, plus the center of gravity on those are a little off anyway. I still set it on the bell, I'm just more careful. Never seen a balance problem on any other horn, but of course I still say rest the tuba up against a chair, just in case.
The one poster that commented on horns tipping with monsterweights only had the experience of seeing them on my horn. He had no experience with other tubas.
Any steel supply company could sell you some hex bar stock, but it would be easier and cheaper for me to just sell you monsterweights.
