Yup, I was more into playing with the camera setup than thinking about what I was really photographing. The tuba didn't rest conveniently on my "set" in the other direction and I didn't realize what I was hiding. When I get film in the camera again, I will try again.
If I'm remembering right (and I did this work about a dozen years ago), the balls for the old Miraphone ball joints on my tuba were screwed in and soldered. I put a little heat on them and they unscrewed. Joe S. or Matt can probably confirm. I didn't tap threads--that I know--I don't have a tap in those threads. So either the threads matched up close enough, or I drilled a little small and let the threaded rod tap its own threads. Again, I don't remember. I'll look closely and see if it comes back to me.
