i'm playing an old king sousaphone in marching band. it's much better sounding than the conn sousa's we have that look and sound like they're made of tin foil. the only problem is that the first C below the staff down are too quiet. i can play them when i'm just sitting in the band room playing or practicing but when i play with the band i cant get them to ring out like the other notes. i'm the only tuba player in a band of 105 including colorguard and pit.and i have no problem being herd as long as i play a D or above. i've begun to think that maybe i could fix this with a new mouthpiece. what characteristics should i look for. or if not a mouthpiece are there any drills i can do daily to really build up those chops or is there somthing i can do to the horn?
