My Conn 52J was in the shop getting nylon valve guides when one of the repair guys noticed a large amount of what appeared to be a silicone sealant around the joint where the leadpipe detaches- told me it was about 1/8th blocking the airflow. After taking it out(obviously) it seems to blow more freely, although it was several days between playings so I can't be sure. Has anyone else checked out the threaded collar of their leadpipe and found this gunk? It must have been put there for anti-leak purposes. BTW another great retrofit on these horns is the plastic-coated(?) copper Yamaha valve springs; like buttah.
