"bombastic" strikes me as a pejorative term in this context. I would never describe anything I've ever heard Roger do as "bombastic." Generally his approach to pieces like the Penderecki is highly intense, with great emphasis on virtuosity. Perantoni approaches things differently, with priority on beautiful tone, and clear and even articulation. The more you listen to the great players, the better developed your critical faculties will become, and if you're destined to be a great player yourself, you'll internalize something from all of them.
