Intonation on Kalison's

I owned a Daryl Smith CC Kalison for four years while I was in college, and just recently replaced it with the King 2341 ( a prototype horn similar to the 2341, but with minor differences). I was never very happy with the intonational tendencies on the Kalison, it seemed as though I was constantly fighting to achieve any consistency. I had to use third valve instead of 1&2 on E natural, and 1&5 instead of 2&3 on Eflat, among others. I was wondering if anyone else noticed these things? There is also a possibility that these intonation problems were due to the player, and NOT the playee. I know I shouldn't worry about it since I have sold it, but I am tired of writing drill for my band, so I thought I would ask. Any thoughts?

Shane- The player, not the playee.
