My teacher has an older Besson Eb. I think it is a 981. The bell is pretty small. I played it for a while during a lesson while she was trying out my Willson. I really liked her Besson but I know I could never get used to the 3+1 valve set up. I wish they would as least offer all four valves together. I could live with a top action. I was not as impressed with the 983 but the other Eb tubas are really nice. I just can't live with the 3+1.
