I really like the Britten... The chorals line on the beginning has to be played very relax, full sound... let the air going out on the low range...
On the variation, you can play the solo on many ways... sustain, bell tone, maracato... it's a personnal musical idea here that's to be choosen. Listen to many recording. After, this a choral like notes... sustain and relax, not too loud and after the line is played 2 beat after the trombone, it's a solo, so play it in the same way you choose as the beginning of the variation... never agressivly...
The only technical part is on the fugue...
The end, is to be played on the same way that the beginning...

I don't have many advice on how to play that excerpts, but just do music. Listening to the excerpts can bring you some good ideas if you don't have yours.
