It's remotely possible that there is a delay between the moment you start the sound and when it comes out of the bell. In which case you need to address that problem with a competent teacher. To my way of thinking you would have to be having relatively serious sound production problems to cause a noticable delay.

However, I've also had students that appeared to have a delay such as just described(playing with a metronome) but when I had them sing or clap the same problem music the problem didn't go away. At which point it becomes obvious that the problem is actually a lack of internalization of the beat. The students were simply reacting to the outside stimulus rather than actively making statements.

Perhaps some time spent in lock step with a metrone will work things out?
