You might want to check out the Jazz Conception books by Jim Snidero. It comes in a bass trombone version that works well both as written and down an octave on tuba. It comes with a cd with the bass bone playing the etudes with a rhythm section. You can fade the trombone out (it's in just one channel) and play and solo with the rhythm section. Most of the tunes are based on jazz standards (same changes).
