The replacing of lead pipes should only be attempted by a certified journeyman plumbing contractor. Exposure to lead can cause birth defects and mental retardation. You must own an old horn, since lead pipes were banned in the 20th century. If your horn was made after about 1970, you should contact your local codes enforcement entity, and require the contractor responsible for the lead pipe to pay for the retrofit.
