The effectiveness of the Dent Eraser, whether the UNI unit or any other, varies widely with the thickness and hardness of the material. If an area has been repaired before and is now work-hardened, the unit will not be as effective. Also, if the interior surface of the instrument is rough, it can transfer that texture to the outside, and suddenly where you had a dent on your Cerveny, for example, you now have an orange-peel texture and the lacquer is roughed-up.
It can be a valuable time-saver for play-condition work on certain instruments, but it didn't actually replace a single tool in my inventory. It will straighten out huge dents, as long as they're shallow. If a dent is deep, the old-fashioned methods are necessary. The Dent Eraser can't fix a dent in a bottom bow protective cap, either. There is one way to do that, and it isn't easy . . .
