For the longest time I was pleased with my sound using a Marcinkeiwicz N1. The stock c3 had a nice "ringy" sound, but wasn't deep enough for me. Just this last week I tried the Mike Finn line and really liked them all. I chose the MF3 because I prefer wide mouthpieces, but the others (MF 1 & MF2) were also excellent. The MF2 would be an ideal choice for the majority of 188 (and other largish rotary tubas)players. Not that the price should really matter, but the Mike Finns are very competitively priced.

The reason I like the Finns is that they are heavy weights, but not too heavy. I am not a person who is constantly in search of new equipment, but the Mike Finn mouthpieces sounded exactly like what I was looking for in a mouthpiece, and indeed, they are.
