I like the sounds that occur when the melodies in the Hartley drop to pitches on the CC tuba's first overtone. I also like the articulate clarity in the staff on the F tuba, as there is a lot that can become a little muffled and "blobby" by a big round sound - even when cleanly executed (maybe just a bit like trying to perform a piece with a lot of quick movement in a way-too-resonant hall.)

I really appreciate your comments!!! I think I'll play the piece on both instruments a few times, weigh the sonority vs. clarity issues, and make decisions on both the piece and the instrument in a couple of days - as courtesy to the audience dictates a competent and entertaining "show" in time for the "Octubafest" in which I was invited to perform.

(I kinda wish the tuba part could have the tonal variety of the piano part, but that's not what tubas "do" best.)
