I can't believe you haven't gotten a correct answer yet! Just like a lower-end car; student Tubas cost less and have fewer options. Having said that, just because you pay a premium price for a horn doesn't mean it's a 'professional' horn. The main feature most professional horns have is nickel-silver casings over the valve slides. This is obvious from a distance and protects and strengthens valve-slide life and durability. Pro horns usually have better lacquer (if not a Silver Horn) and more quality throughout.
You MUST attend a Tuba/Euph convention/symposium where several Horn Venders have several horns so you can see the difference for yourself.
