I am playing these two pieces soon. If you haven't had a chance to hear them, do so. The Rouse has a tremendously beautiful slow movement, nice big unfolding Chorale. The "March" movement is really hairy if you don't slow it down, and it calls for a *GROAN* mute. The Shafer is a little hard on the ears, but it has a neat tuba cadenza half way through the 3rd movement. Nothing too terribly difficult, but you are hanging out there all alone. The contractor for the gig sent a recording, whoever is playing tuba on the Shafer(unnamed orchestra)is REALLY good. I have the Houston/Rouse recording. Dave Kirk is as good as they get. I hope all of you get a chance to play these at some point, particularly the Rouse. Cheers.

Chuck
