Several of the sites I hit in my search show positive results from Botox treatment in alleviating focal dystonia symptoms. Others show dystonias to be related to Parkinson's disease. It seems to be genetic in many cases, but not all. It is the same thing that has been known as "writer's cramp" for generations, and is even more prevalent in string players' left hands. There is a wealth of information on focal dystonia zooming about the modems of the world. One article in the New England Journal of Medicine seems to indicate that vitamin B-12 deficiency can also be an indicator. I could only read the abstract, since I don't subscribe to such a learned periodical.
